Free Web analytics Tool – Piwik
Here to introduce you the Piwik . It’s a free web analytics program that you may consider to use for compensating Google Analytics flaws. Piwik is a downloadable, open source (GPL’ed) real time web analytics tools that required you to download PHP & MySQL software program and install on your own Web server. To track the website you want, simply copy and paste the JavaScript code on the page yet access the analytics report in real time.
Why you may consider Piwik while Google Analytics are so sophisticated, powerful and comprehensive?
- You don’t trust Google, which you want to keep your data privacy high.
- Leverage the data stored for further analysis by using self-wrote program or tools.
- Focus on visitors profile
- It’s open Source
- Internal traffic (without Internet)
After implementation goes right, you will have your own dashboard that you can customize to your liking to track the elements that you are interested in. There are 5 tabs included (Overall dashboard, Visitors, Actions, Referrers and Goals)
Visitors tab provides you the detail information of your visitor and you can drill down into things that you ‘d want to know about as like as Google Analytics provided.
Actions tab displays the visitor flow that which pages users entered and exited the site form, also you can se the mot popular downloads if your site has that.
Referrers tab shows al information you would like to know about referrers –what search engine, what keywords led people, what referring site led people and campaign if you have any set up.
Goal tab like Google Analytics allows you to self define an event or action as your business objectives to be tracked on the site e.g. visit contact us page, click a download, New visit with 5 in page depth etc.
Another cool feature with Piwik is you can export reports in a number of ways (email, CSV, HTML, PDF) that is really convenient to show your boss or colleagues their wanted information (Google Analytics didn’t provide you the report in PDF format and you can’t provide data that was captured on that day).
Although it’s still not full-featured comparing to Google Analytics, it’s getting there and you know its major advantage over Google Analytics is control of your data and the application itself. So if you think Google Analytics is not enough, add on Piwik.
