Starting this week, “Visitors Flow” report and “Goal Flow” report will be rolling out to all Google Analytics accounts. Having been a long time, path analysis report is not doing good enough in GA. Now, with the release of  “Flow Visualization”, good news is given to analysts and marketers. GA offers this enhanced function allowing a more easier to understand path analysis and goal analysis of visitors.

With no doubt, the Visitor Flow Report would give you a graphical representation of the paths took through your site, from the source, through the various pages, and where along their paths they exited your site. Also you can traverse the path forwards or backwards on this visualizer to gain more insight on how engaged the users are to your new promotion that truly would be interesting.

This visualization lets you see:

  • The relative volume of visits to your site by the dimension you choose (e,g., traffic sources, campaign, browser)
  • The relative volume of pageviews per page or collection of pages
  • Specific metrics for connections, nodes, and node exits when you hover over them

Another one is Goal Flow Report presents the paths that visitors take in your site to complete some sort of conversion (Own defined), how visitors flow through your goal steps and where they dropped off.

This visualization lets you see:

  • The relative volume of visits to your site by the dimension you choose (e.g., traffic source, campaign, browser)
  • The relative volume of pageviews per goal step
  • The relative volume of traffic/rate of abandonment from step to step
  • Where visitors backtracked along the goal path
  • Specific metrics for connections, nodes, and node exits when you hover over them
  • Conversion rates for each source (in the table column for your goal)

Noteworthy is the most important feature that you can apply advance segment across both flow visualizer. Currently the goal funnel analysis didn’t support advance segment, so you can’t drill down to have deeper information. Segmentation is always remarkably important that have been mentioned many times in this blog.

Google Analytics keeps the enhancement coming and more visualization reports are promised to coming out in few months later. Let’s see how theses visualizers work and later will share more in-depth usage to all of you.
